While we were on the way back to the ranch for another fun filled day, we noticed a large amount of smoke. We drove towards it to check and see if everything was under control. There was an old rent house on the property that was left completely trashed by the previous owners. In order to get rid of some of the trash, they had dug a deep hole for burning it. Unfortunately, the winds picked up to 25-30 miles per hour and the fire got out of control, burning the land and eventually burning down dozens of hay bales and a few trees. We got there and immediately picked up some rakes and shovels to help dig fire lines until the fire department could get there. Luckily, the fire didn’t burn down any houses in the process. We had our camera on us, and managed to get a few shots in between working and digging the fire lines.
Geez! Who just sets a fire and leaves… or were they there? Still… who called the fire department? I really want to know more, haha, because when I see fields on fire in Ohio, I assume the farmer has set it and is tending to it.
The ranch is Ryan’s grandfather’s. He has some rent houses there and this particular rent house was the one that was trashed. He was trying to burn some of the trash that was left and he went inside to grab more. Then the wind picked up. He called the fire department, but because they live out so far, it was a while of us out there on our own fighting the fires before they arrived.
