After a grueling seven days of training, we are finished!
Each day for the past week, we have been observing and co-teaching classes of kids from 1st grade to 10th. It has been an interesting experience having such a broad range of classes and age groups. Next week we will be teaching our own classes of mostly younger kids.
We originally were told that we would be teaching at the same school, but things in Korea are ‘flexible’ and subject to constant change. Both schools are owned by the same man, but are about a twenty minute bus ride apart from each other. Ryan will be teaching in Geumcheon while I will be in Anyang. It would have been nice to teach at the same school, but we still have the same teaching hours as each other which is great.
Last Friday I taught 6 classes on my own while my Head Instructor observed. It went really well and I am feeling more and more comfortable with the kids. They are so smart and are such characters! It is so fun to see each of their personalities and get to know them. Our class sizes are small in comparison to most classes in the States. Here, our classes range anywhere from 2 students to 14. I am okay with that since it is much easier to get to know each student.
The classes are very structured, which makes being a new teacher easier. Once we have taught for a couple of weeks, it will be easier to try to create games and projects to make the classes more interesting and fun.
On a side note: The cats are home safe with Ryan’s mom. We were heartbroken to lose them, but are so glad that they are okay now and with family.
We are still without internet, so sorry that the updates are coming slowly. We should be getting internet installed next week and communication should be much easier! In the meantime, we love you all and hope all is well back home.
With love,
Stephanie and Ryan
